Pitman, the simple choice

The Pitman Alphabet is your best bet, if you want an alphabet that looks similar to the Roman Alphabet. It regularizes the pronunciation of the Roman Alphabet, and adds a number of new letters for the Longer Vowel sounds.

It is an intermediate alphabet that is phonetic, but still quite compatible with 85% of traditional spelling using the Roman Alphabet.
